My Embarrassing Moment

It was a cold, winter morning and I had to play hockey in the freezing rain. It couldn’t have been much worse. A wet slippery turf and a cold rainy day.

After my team had finished our warm up, we practised hitting the ball to each other and sorted out what positions we were playing. The other teams walked off the turf and it was finally our turn to play. We all got into position and the game began. We had won all of our games so far and there were only three more in the season, including the game we were playing, so we were all desperate to win this game to.

In the first half of the game, everyone was passing well, we had already scored a couple of goals and the ball was mostly on the opposition's side of the game. Everything was going great. At half-time we were all feeling good about how we were playing. We had a small team talk, and soon enough we were back out on the turf. About the first 15 minutes into the second half of the game were fine, but then it all started going downhill. Everyone was super puffed from running around so much, since it was a bigger turf we were playing on. The other team was playing a lot better further on in the game and had already caught up to us on 6 goals.

Finally, I thought I could save the game. I got passed the ball turned around and dribbled it up the field. Unfortunately, I face planted into the ground, and the ball rolled out of my stick.. I nudged the ball forward in hope that it would roll forward into the corner of the goal. The world seemed to be going in slow motion. We all waited in suspense for the ball to roll into the goal. Finally it did. I dropped my stick and ran over to my team mates. I was thrilled. We only had 1 minute left in the game for the other team to score a goal. As I turned around, I realised I was in our side of the turf. My whole team was frowning and the other team was celebrating. I soon also realised that I had scored a goal for the other team.

There was no hope in winning now since there was only 1 minute left, so we all gave up and waited for the game to finish. Overall, I definitely wish I had checked to see who’s side of the game I was on before I scored the goal because my friends have always remembered it and they constantly nag me about it.

My Embarrassing Story

One of my most embarrassing moments occurred a few years ago it involves my Mum, Eve and I. The day began as every other sunday began sleeping in and not wanting to do anything all day. We decided to go to the mall and do some grocery shopping.

We got ready for the day and hopped into our car when we finally arrived at the mall we searched for a free car park on top of the building among all the cars and people. We  went down the escalators and entered Pak n Save. We grabbed a trolley and began our  shop as we browsed through the food aisles and in the many rows we came to the checkout and got into a line we paid for our food and then exited Pak n Save. Once we were out we made our way to the carpark.

We strolled around the mall until we came to the two escalators that led to our car we walked up the first one and almost made it up the second until at that moment we heard an anxious yell come from behind us Mum and I turned around to see Eve tears streaming down her face and her finger pointing down at her undone shoelace with the end caught in the escalator Mum rushed over to try and pull the lace out but it wouldn’t budge. As the end of the escalator neared towards us we had no other choice. Mum reached out and pushed the big red circle that read emergency stop button. She pushed down on it and with a loud creek the escalator came to a stop.

As person after person walked past some giggling and ignoring us while others occasionally stopping and asking if we were alright one person even offered Eve a lolly. After what seemed like hours of trying to loosen the shoelace a lady came up to us and handed us some scissors we cut through the lace and rushed out of the mall as fast as we could. Even though it may have been stressful, irritating and embarrassing at the time a few years later it is now something that we can look back on and laugh at.

How I Overcame my Fear Rising from the depths of the ocean, like hands, reaching out to grab you and pull you under. I’d leap out of the water if I felt it, but it always looked like gentle flowers, swaying in the breeze. My dad always told me that there is a type of it that will wrap around you, and hold you under the waves.
It was a sunny day at Tikao Bay and our neighbours /friends offered us a ride to Fleabay, an outer bay in Bank Peninsula. We instantly replied because we were desperate for a swim. An hour later, we were finally there. Willow, Lily and I lept into the shallow water, refreshed from the cool temperature of the waves. Everything was quickly unloaded from the boat and put on the sandy stretch of beach. We decided to go snorkelling before lunch.
We launched ourselves into the water, equipped with goggles and flippers. We swam at the top of the water, looking down on the sandy seafloor. It went deeper and deeper. Finally we started seeing tiny fish, darting about. We swam a little longer before finally reaching the point we agreed on. I don’t remember them telling me about seaweed. Seaweed surrounded us, every inch I could see was seaweed. For a moment I had a mini mental breakdown. “You never said anything about seaweed!” I yelled. Fortunately for them, all they saw was a cluster of bubbles, escaping from my mouth. The fish were the only things that made me stay put. They comfortably swam around me; a flash of rainbow colours.
Willow and Lily had discovered something and were now swimming away from me. The last thing I wanted was isolation so I swallowed my bubble of fear and went with them. The seaweed grew higher the further we went. This stuff was slime green but it began to change the deeper we got. We stopped at the edge of the lower stuff, and they went deep to do some investigating. I saw them down there, finding cool stuff all the time but my fear was holding me back. I decided what to do. I took a deep breath and dove under the waves. It was amazing! There was tons of the slimy, yucky seaweed but fish darted about, all different shapes and sizes.
My eyes widened in amazement as I saw a see-through fish, lazily swimming around. The light streamed through the water, highlighting some particular spots. Shells were lounging about on the seafloor. I rose up to the surface, taking deep breaths because I had deprived myself of air, staring at the underwater wonderland. When it was finally time to go back to the sandy sea shore, I lagged behind, my eyes transfixed on the water below me. It really was beautiful! Maybe seaweed wasn’t so bad after all!

Worst Injury

It was quiet day at school. We were going out for sport when everything came crashing down.

We were sitting in class waiting for when we would go out for sport. Going out for sport was a big thing in our class because it rarely happened. We walked outside and over to the court. We started our laps and I wasn’t exactly watching where I was going. I narrowly escaped crashing into the netball pole but then I tripped over. I came crashing to the ground like the Hindenburg scraping my knee on the hard concrete. My life flashed before my eyes. Tears welled up, I was out of breath. Lying on the ground like a dead fish.

I got up like nothing happened. Everyone kept running past so I picked myself up and ran the rest of the way. I hadn’t looked at what had happened to my knee but I knew that it was painful. My hands had scrapes and were aching. It was only when we got back into the classroom that I noticed what had happened. I looked down at my knee to inspect what I had done. There was blood trickling down my leg. As soon as I saw it, my knee started to sting. I grabbed some tissues to wipe up the blood and thought there was nothing I could do about it.

I got home to show mum what had happened. She put a dressing over it so it wouldn’t get infected. The sting lasted for the next few days that we were at school. That weekend dad took us in town to show us all the new buildings. We got lunch and walked back to the car. On the way back to the car we walked down a bumpy road.. I was focused on eating when all of a sudden everything went flying in the air then landing on the ground.

I looked around to see everything sprawled out over the ground. I was crying in pain because I had fallen over onto my knee. Now I had two sore knees and no lunch. I limped the rest of the way back to the car with tears streaming down my face.

We got home to fix up my knees. After a couple of days we took off the plasters to see what they looked like. They looked exactly the same. I wanted to put more plasters on them but mum said they need air. Every move I made stung so I just decided to sit on the couch for a while. Over the next two days they started to scab. Every time I looked at them I felt sick.

They took forever to fully recover but now I have scab free knees. Everywhere I look i’m scared there is a bump in the ground. I haven’t tripped since and I still look at every little thing that could get in my way.
